Architecture
It was a historic moment in July 2003 when UNESCO declared the White City, a different kind of cultural and historic blended masterpiece of Tel Aviv-Jaffa as a World Heritage Center. This declaration brought Tel Aviv into the limelight and the world began to recognize its special architectural value by virtue of its buildings and avenues.

The first modern Hebrew city, Tel Aviv was established in 1909 with an innovative style. It has the largest grouping of structures in an international style, called the Bauhaus. This was the brainchild of the famous Scot, Sir Patrick Geddes. The White City is positioned between the Allenby Street, Begin Road and Ibn Gvirol Street the Yarkon River to its north and Mediterranean Sea to its west.

Jewish architectural styling is evident in the buildings of "White City". These Jewish architects had been educated and trained in Europe before they came into Israel. This new style was highlighted by the asymmetrical features of the buildings along with the simplicity and effective functionality. The city also symbolized the typical jewish flat roofs, thermometer windows and building pillars which became an integral part of Jewish architecture.

The "White City" denotes the path that Tel Aviv has traveled from its inception till date and enables the onlooker to experience the flavors of the past and present. The architectural style of the city, the artwork of Sir Patrick Geddes, is very special. An inner observation of the buildings reveals to us the integral aspects of the style: flat roofs, facades with airways, stunningly white walls and vertical staircases, all of which reiterate only one aspect – the importance given to simplicity and functionality. These two aspects have become the architectural symbols of this style. One of the most obvious characteristics of the style is round small balconies, which gives the buildings a unique appearance.
